Journalism is only the first rough draft of history.
freely based on Alan Barth (journalist, 1943) and Phil Graham (publisher, 1963)
I take the liberty to permit myself the journalistic arrogance – using the words of the former owner of a well known US-American daily newspaper – not to write about puppies but to inform and to provide food for thought. Other than said newspaper owner I do not require an impertinent amount of money on my bank account before, in a whiff of philantropy, I consider spending my time for relevant – and not only entertaining – journalistic work.
My interests lie in the areas of social coexistence, the idea of Europe, the cases of the International Criminal Court, the approach of the industrial countries towards Africa, the Middle and the Far East. Less daily coverage than more thoroughly investigated background stories. Allowing the reader his or her own view on things. It is neither wrong to enjoy reading The Jacobin nor is it wrong to sympathize with Jennifer Rubin’s blogs. Yet, it becomes critical once the reader stops thinking for himself and lets somebody else determine what his opinion is.
